Sunday: Walking with God
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into
his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Genesis 2:7
The first Easter happened on the first day of the week, a Sunday. In a sense,
every Sunday is a miniature Easter celebration. Every Sunday, Christians
gather to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and His undeniable victory
over sin and death. Christ had the power to lay down his pure and righteous
life by giving it up on the cross, and that is exactly what He did for us.
But the cross could not hold Him. Death held no power over Him. He arose,
and He walked among us!
The power to give life comes from God alone. Every time that God gives life,
it is an act of love and an invitation to walk together in a relationship
filled with purpose and joy. God filled Adam with the breath of life at creation,
and Adam walked with God. God revived the body of Jesus at Easter, and God
walked with us.
Today is the first Sunday during Lent. Even though Sundays are not counted
in the forty days of Lent, we are still on our pilgrim journey. We are still
seeking an intimate, personal encounter with God. We are still seeking to
walk with Him so that we can have a relationship filled with purpose and
joy.
Remember that God gave us life so that we can walk with Him. Remember that
Christ arose so that He could walk with us. What a precious invitation to
walk together!
God of life and God of breath, you alone are God. You alone give life.
You alone are life. Thank you for the life you have given me. Thank you for
the lives of those around me. Let me praise you for your greatness. Give
me purpose and give me joy in this journey. Let me walk with You, as You
walk with me. In the name of Jesus Christ, my risen Lord, Amen.
