Labyrinth Pilgrimage, Day 26

The Cross Labyrinth, Day 26Sunday: Peace in Promise

My covenant is with you.
Genesis 17:4

Along our pilgrim journey we have seen that God calls people to do things they would never do on their own. Noah built an ark in an age when there had been no rain. Abram left his homeland for a place he had never seen. Rebekah left her family to marry a man she had never met. Israel stopped using tricks to get ahead and began facing his challenges with God and with man. Moses left his palaces, and then he left his flocks. Joshua the aide became Joshua the commander. David the shepherd became David the king.

David would have accomplished nothing by building an ark. That was God's command to Noah many centuries earlier. Abram would have achieved nothing by marching around the city of Jericho. That would be God's command to Joshua a few centuries later. All of these people lived in different times and under different circumstances. They had different callings. They had different missions.

They had similarities, too. Each one listened to God's voice. Each one obeyed God's voice. Each one enjoyed God's blessing through obedience. In the face of danger and uncertainty, each one experienced peace in the promise of God.

We live in different times and under different circumstances than the men and women in the Bible. Each of us has a different calling. Each of us has a different mission. But we can listen to God. We can choose to obey. We can enjoy God's blessings through obedience. We can experience peace in the promises of God.

Take time to rest in God's peace on this Lord's day. Listen. Obey. Enjoy. God's promises are for you.

God of peace, I praise you for your promises. Thank you for the promises that you made to the men and women of the Bible. Thank you for the witness of your faithfulness that we find in the scriptures. Thank you for your promises to me. I know that you are able to keep your promises, and I know that you are faithful to keep them. Let my life reflect my gratitude to you, and give me peace in the knowledge of your faithfulness. Amen.
